Zoologische Mededelingen

Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie (Leiden) (Netherlands) (English)

Zoologische Mededelingen publishes original papers and monographs dealing with various branches of vertebrate and invertebrate biology. The focus of the journal is systematics. The majority of the publications in Zoologische Medelingen are the result of research projects of the Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum in Leiden, or are based mainly or entirely on specimens in the collections of the Museum. Only original papers that have not been submitted or published elsewhere will be considered for publication. The first issue of Zoologische Mededeelingen appeared in 1915, as the official journal of the 's Rijks Museum van Natuurlijke Historie, presently Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum Naturalis. The series was preceded by Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle des Pays-Bas (volumes I-XIV, 1862-1908) and Notes from the Leyden Museum (volumes I-XXXVI, 1879-1914). Researchers from the museum published in this periodical about the collection and it therefore mainly contained articles about fauna of The Netherlands and the former Dutch colonies. Later on, also other authors were invited to publish in Zoologische Mededelingen. Until 1987 (volume 61) articles have been published as separate issues (except for the special issues on Boschma and Brongersma), but since that year one volume is bound into various issues per year.
