Conservation: Brycon guatemalensis is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2018). Brycon guatemalensis is widely distributed, occurring in many locations and lacking evidence of major localized or regional population decline. Subsistence fisheries may have some effect on the total population trend of B. guatemalensis (Lyons, 2019).
