Conservation: Gobiesox mexicanus is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (VU) vulnerable (2018). Gobiesox mexicanus faces a continuing decline in the extent and quality of its natural habitat as a result of overextraction of water resources for agricultural irrigation, industrial and urban uses across its range (Schmitter-Soto, 2019).
