Conservazione: Thorichthys panchovillai non inserita dalle organizzazioni internazionali di salvaguardia delle specie a rischio nella lista rossa. At current time, in spite that deforestation, agrochemicals and other types of pollutants had affected the Coatzacoalcos basin, the range of T. panchovillai remains habitable and good numbers of T. panchovillai still thrive. There are however potential risks. The Coatzacoalcos has been targeted for the construction of numerous hydroelectric dams and for a trans-isthmian cross for cargo from the Atlantic for the Pacific oceans. If any of those projects prospers, it will certainly have an impact on the fish populations present.
