保育: Hybopsis cumingii 由国际自然保护联盟（IUCN）在濒危物种红色名录中为自然保育而进行了评估 evaluated (NT) 近危（Near threatened） (2018). Hybopsis cumingii is endemic to the Atoyac River. Atoyac River is heavily polluted by industries and urban areas lacking sewage treatment facilities in several municipalities of Oaxaca, Tlaxcala, and Puebla. Harmful chemical and organic substances have been identified in the river water which has become a source of infection for diseases such as hepatitis, cancer, and cholera. A massive fish death was reported from the Atoyac River in 2017. Thus, it is inferred that the species population size is experiencing a reduction given the continuing decline of its habitat quality (Vega-Cendejas & Gonzales, 2019).
