Conservation: Heterophallus echeagarayi is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (DD) data deficient (2018). The area of distribution of Heterophallus echeagarayi is subject to a number of land-use impacts, including those generated from agricultural and cattle production. Additionally, a number of non-native species have been introduced to the basin which may impact the fitness of native fauna (Lyons, 2019).
