Conservation: Xiphophorus gordoni est évalué par l'Union Internationale pour la Conservation de la Nature dans la Liste Rouge des espèces menacées comme étant (EN) en danger (2018). A continuing decline of the quality of this species' habitat has been projected as a result of the impending (within 5 years) construction of irrigation channels, which will reduce the area of the freshwater springs to which the species is restricted (Matamoros et al., 2019).
